DAAD Contest: Seeing Double

For this year’s DAAD contest, we want to know about the places and things in your community that had you #SeeingDouble! Submit your photo of a place or thing here in the US or Canada that reminded you of a German Doppelgänger!

Have you ever noticed that Toronto and Berlin both have iconic TV Towers? Did riding the Wonder Wheel in Coney Island remind you of the Ferris Wheel at Munich’s Oktoberfest? We want to hear about it!

If you need more inspiration, be sure to follow us on social media. You can find DAAD Canada on Facebook and Twitter to see more examples!

Never been to Germany? No problem! Submit a photo of the place or thing that makes you feel like you’re in Germany without having to take a flight!

Photos can be submitted from September 9, 2022 to October 10, 2022. The top entries will advance to the Voting Round.

The entry with the most votes will receive free round trip airfare to anywhere in Germany. Second prize is a free online language course at the Goethe-Institut and third prize is a US$50 gift card to Germandeli.com (or equivalent).

All entries also have the chance to be featured on the DAAD Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts!

Here’s How to Enter:

1) Visit the contest site and use the submission form to submit your contact information and two photos: one of a place or thing from your community and one of its German Doppelgänger! At least one of the photos must be your original photo – make sure you have permission to share the photos!

2) Submissions can be entered until 11:59 EDT on October 10, 2022. The top submissions will then advance to the Voting Round.

3) From October 14 to 28, everyone can vote on their favourite Doppelgänger pair –  the top three entries will win a prize! Winners will be notified on November 1, 2022.

Entrants must be over 18 years old and enrolled as an undergraduate student in the US or Canada.  Any photos not taken by the entrant must be available for public use or in the public domain. Entrants must have the permission of any and all people who appear in their original photos.  Photos may be submitted between September 9, 2022 and October 10, 2022 at 11:59 EDT.
